The best features in recycling
Resource Media is a publishing and communications company with environmental objectives, based in the centre of Bristol.
Known for our innovative approach, we’ve built our reputation in the waste and recycling industry. Our in-house magazine, Resource, champions forward-thinking for this sector. In addition, we are a contract publisher for a range of government, commercial and third sector clients.
Our portfolio of services also includes marketing and communications, websites and print buying.
Charles Newman CEO
After five years of research and teaching at the University of Bristol, Charles joined Resource in 2001 as an Editorial Assistant. He has worked as Editor for The Waste Paper and Material Matters, and is currently Editor in Chief of Resource, alongside his responsibilities as the company's Chief Executive Officer. His professional interests are environmental economics, zero waste and the psychology of recycling. He is currently studying for a CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing.
Leonie Butler Editor
Leonie joined Resource in 2002 as an Editorial Assistant, after studying Philosophy at the University of Bristol. She left the company for a few years to work on business magazines, and returned as an Editor in 2005. Having pestered her family to recycle from when she was little – before kerbside collections were the norm – and forcing her father to put a brick in the loo cistern in order to save water, Leonie was set on ‘saving resources’. Her greatest bugbears are packaging and litter!
Libby Peake Editor
Libby has been working at Resource since 2007. The first cassette tape she ever insisted her mother buy for her, ‘Let’s Clean up our Act’, was composed of songs about overflowing landfills ('We’re really messing up the place, and brother that’s a fact!’), so the company seemed like a perfect fit. Prior to her editorial career, she studied English literature and anthropology at McGill University in Montreal and received an MA in English studies from Durham University. She also spent a couple of years teaching – creative writing, English as a second language, theatre and tennis, amongst other subjects.
Annie Reece Editor
Annie joined Resource in 2012 as Deputy Editor, covering Leonie Butler’s maternity leave. Before joining Resource, Annie had been working at BBC Music Magazine and freelanced for numerous other titles including Countryfile, Homes & Antiques and local Bristol magazine, AREA. Annie moved to Bristol in 2008, after studying English Literature and Music at the University of Sheffield (she plays the flute and piano). Her greatest recycling bugbear is the lack of comprehensive recycling bins found on the street scene!
Chloe Bouvier Web Designer/Developer
Chloe joined Resource at the end of 2009. Her time is spent developing database applications, coding html emails, and designing CMS driven websites. She has a bachelor degree in Computer Science and another in Art from the University of Iowa.
Rachel England Journalist
Rachel started working with Resource in 2009 when she came on board to cover Leonie's maternity leave. Previously she edited an arts and culture guide in Cardiff after completing a PGDip in Magazine Journalism. She now lives in London and freelances full time on a range of environmental and green lifestyle topics.
Will Simpson Journalist
Will Simpson is a Bristol-based freelance journalist who has been contributing to Resource for over eight years now. In that time he's written about the recycling and reuse of everything from metals and print cartridges to aeroplanes and items he had no idea could be recycled before he wrote for Resource. He also writes about music for Guitarist and Classic Rock and about other environmental and social change issues for The Spark magazine.
