Straight plc wins contract with Dorset Waste Partnership
Environmental products and services group, Straight plc, has won a three-year contract with the Dorset Waste Partnership to provide recycling and refuse services to all properties in Dorset County.
The contract, worth over £750,000 will see the Dorset Waste Partnership (currently responsible for running waste services to residents in and around Christchurch, Dorset, West Dorset, East Dorset, North Dorset, Purbeck, Weymouth and Portland) overhaul recycling and refuse in the county (not including Bournemouth and Poole), including a new kerbside recycling scheme that will streamline the county’s 12 different recycling collections into one standard system.
Aside from reducing resource requirements, Dorset Waste Partnership believes that the new scheme will help partner councils reduce costs by £2 million a year and increase the county’s recycling rate from 50 per cent to an estimated 65 per cent.
Under the new contract, Straight will manufacture and supply almost 200,000 products to households across Dorset. All households will receive a 7-litre Kitchen Caddy and a 23-litre Kerbside Caddy for the indoor and outdoor collection of food waste, as well as a 55-litre Kerbside Box for the collection of glass bottles and jars.
As part of the Dorset Waste Partnership’s flexible service, a 44-litre Kerbside Box will also be available for the collection of mixed dry recyclables for those properties unable to store a wheeled bin. Bins will be rolled out in October 2012.
Jonathan Straight, Chief Executive for Straight plc, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the contract with Dorset Waste Partnership and we are looking forward to working with them. We are excited to be assisting them with the implementation of a more cohesive recycling scheme and believe that the new scheme will offer considerable benefits to both Dorset Waste Partnership and Dorset residents.”
Steve Burdis, Director of the Dorset Waste Partnership, added: “We are very much looking forward to working with Straight plc as the supplier of our food waste containers and recycling boxes for the new ‘recycle for Dorset’ collection service. We believe that Dorset residents will be delighted with their new containers, which will help them to recycle more at the kerbside as we look to boost Dorset’s recycling rate to 65 per cent by 2015.”
