Viridor acquires JWT Waste Services
Waste and recycling company Viridor is set to expand its operations in Manchester after its recent acquisition of JWT Holdings Ltd (trading as JWT Waste Services) in a deal worth £7.6 million.
Atherton-based specialist recycling and collection business, JWT, handles around 70,000 tonnes of material annually and under the new acquistion, their Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) and 29-strong vehicle fleet will be integrated into Viridor’s northern region operations.
The acquisition is expected to allow Viridor to further expand its operations in the north, including Merseyside, Lancashire and Greater Manchester, where Viridor already operates the household waste contract, the largest waste and renewable energy private finance initiative in Europe.
Viridor also hopes to expand its presence in the north through its construction of the UK’s largest Energy from Waste (EfW) Combined Heat and Power plant in Runcorn.
“The acquisition continues our investment in essential recycling and renewable energy services in the region, such as the construction of the Runcorn EfW facility alongside our advanced recycling facilities”, said John Viviani, Viridor’s Regional Director, adding that the acquisition also helps them “meet the needs of local businesses which are looking to recycle more and more and to minimise the amount of waste they send to landfill.”
Both companies welcomed the acquisition and looked forward to the future of their business together.
“JWT is a quality local recycling and waste management business and offers good synergies with our existing business in the North West. We look forward to welcoming our new colleagues and to providing existing and new customers with a continued high quality service”, said Viviani.
John Thomasson of JWT Waste Services also welcomed the acquisition, saying: “I am delighted that Viridor has been able to secure the acquisition of JWT. This is good news for our employees, customers, suppliers and all other stakeholders in the business, and will allow the business to grow.”
Viridor already provides recycling and waste services to widely-known Manchester brands such as MediaCityUK, Manchester United and Kelloggs,
More information on the acquisition can be found on the Viridor website.
